Woman Marries A Cardboard Cutout Of Edward Cullen, Because Why Not

Lauren Adkins, a 25-year-old student and artist from Las Vegas, loved her cardboard cutout of Robert Pattinson so much that she decided to marry it. Adkins was obsessed with “Twilight” when she came across the cutout of Robert/Edward Cullen at a record store. She told the Mirror, “I grabbed his rigid torso and stuffed him under my arm before marching to the counter and handing over a $20 note. Then, cramming him into my car I headed back to my apartment where I ripped off his cellophane and stood him at the foot of my bed. For the rest of the night I couldn’t take my eyes off him.” She started to take Robert out and about with her. A friend jokingly asked why she didn’t just married the cardboard R-Patz if she loved him so much — and that’s when she decided to do exactly that.

Thankfully, she planned the wedding as a performance art project for her Master’s degree thesis rather than out of some hope that cardboard Robert would suddenly develop the ability to fall in love with her or, I don’t now, have actual conversations. “This work focuses on the female escapist fantasy in its most popular forms – primarily finding ‘true love’ – and the extent to which it seeps into our real lives,” she told Her. The wedding, which had 50 guests, was streamed live online from the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel after she crowd-funded $1,235 for the ceremony. The reception was held at an art gallery where guests drank champagne and ate a five-tier cake. Afterward, she changed her last name on some of her social media accounts to Cullen. She told the Mirror that she and Rob honeymooned in Los Angeles. “I wanted us to climb up to the Hollywood sign together. I had to carry him, and we had to do it at night because he can’t be in the sun. But everyone makes sacrifices for the man they love, right?” True love, you guys: it really can be that simple.
