Meet The Amazing Melanie Gaydos, A Model With Ectodermal Dysplasia

Model Melanie Gaydos was born with ectodermal dysplasia, a genetic disorder that caused her to experience over 30 surgeries in her young life. The disease, which impacts pores, hair, teeth and nails was enough to deal with at a young age, but Gaydos also found herself in a tough family environment growing up. She began modeling about three years ago in gorgeous and striking photos that only she could bring to life. Now, she hopes to take her modeling skills to runway work. This interview is part of The What’s Underneath Project, which aims to prove that style is about so much more than a person’s outfit choice. The series asks subjects to undress as the interview progresses, getting more vulnerable in both their appearance and their responses as they go — and it’s beautiful. The interviews touch an honest place that some people never reach even in conversations with closest friends. Gaydos’ segment is especially moving and brave. [Huffington Post]
