Life Dream Status: NYC To Recreate Iconic “Friends” Coffee Shop ‘Central Perk’

As a huuuge and borderline-obsessed “Friends” fan (she says, sipping from an oversized Central Perk mug), I would have given my left ovary to hang out with Joey, Monica, Chandler, Ross, Phoebe and Rachel at their favorite coffee shop. And come September, I can have the next best thing. Warner Bros. Television Group, Warner Bros. Consumer Products, and Eight O’Clock Coffee are teaming up to recreate Central Perk at a pop-up location in Manhattan, 20 years after the pilot episode aired. Oh, but there’s more…

Not only can customers enjoy a cup of hot coffee (let’s be honest, who really cares if Rachel isn’t serving it to us?), but visitors can also take photos with the actual orange couch from the show, along with a bunch of other signature props and a show-themed backdrop! On top of that, the pop-up shop guests will enjoy the soothing sounds of “Smelly Cat” and some other tunes made famous by the one and only Phoebe Buffay. James Michael Tyler, who played barista Gunther on the show, will also be making select appearances, which means I’m camping out there for a month straight.

The pop-up Central Perk coffee bar will appear at 199 Lafayette Street in downtown Manhattan, opening Wednesday, Sept. 17 and closing Saturday, Oct. 18. The shop is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Guests can expect daily giveaways, trivia contests and a merchandise shop throughout the month. They’ll also be selling Central Perk-themed coffee, which will be available in Eight O’Clock Coffee stores across the country. Now, WHO IS TAKING ME? [Entertainment Weekly]
