Frisky Reader Revealed: There Goes Dame_Rose
Hands down, the best thing about working at The Frisky is our amazing readers. We so heart all of your witty, thoughtful, and informative comments — heck, we even appreciate the mean ones. Sometimes, we can’t help but wonder about the faces behind the avatars. So we decided to bring back our regular column where we learn all about a Frisky reader. After the jump, meet Dame_Rose!
(And if you’re interested in being featured as a Reader Revealed, shoot me an email with “Reader Revealed” in the subject line!)
Please state your name or avatar, age, and (general or specific) location for The Friskyverse.
Dame_Rose, 23, and Phoenix.
How did you find the site?
Honestly, I cannot remember. It was so long ago … probably through Buzzfeed or the Huffington Post.
What do you do all day, other than follow The Frisky, which is totally condoned?
I work as a pastry chef, am studying to get into medical school, and try to read as much as I possibly can. In addition, I keep up-to-date with various food blogs, am attempting to teach myself Hebrew, and yoga, and I am still a bit obsessed with Tumblr — which is definitely my social media weakness.
What is your fave post in recent Frisky history?
“10 Things I’ve Learned From 10 Years In A Relationship,” by Winona. I know it was posted in April, but it still resonates with me, as I have yet to even remotely approach the whole long-term relationship milestone with anyone. I have always been a fan of Winona’s relationship posts, and wish to learn from her wisdom. All of her posts on the subject have been heartfelt, honest, and realistic.
What are your pop culture guilty pleasures?
I am admittedly not a fan of the whole “guilt” aspect — I mean, if you love it, you love it. I am absolutely a big, unapologetic Whovian (a fan of BBC’s TV series “Doctor Who,” for the uninitiated), and adore “The Colbert Report” and “The Daily Show” (looooove Jon Stewart).
Can you share your most embarrassing dating story? We always share ours. It’s only fair.
Well, the date itself was great. We went to a pretty nice Italian restaurant in my former college town, saw a movie, then he dropped me off at my place afterward, but the kissing was… my GOD. It was… truly awful. As in, I was not sure if he was trying to go straight for the Frenching (we both had quite a bit of vino), or what, because it was all so very… wet and nonsensical. Not attractive, and completely awkward. I even tried to play it off like, “Oh, you’re going right for tongue, aren’t you?” and clearly that wasn’t exactly what he intended. If any of you have read the Georgia Nicolson series by Louise Rennison, you know what I’m talking about when I say “whelk.” *Shudders*. Other than that, I’ve been pretty lucky in not having wholly embarrassing dates- merely snippets of embarrassment.
Do you consider yourself a feminist? Why or why not?
Absolutely, I do. A lot of actresses and other public figures have tried to delve into the semantics, insinuations, and flat-out incorrect assumptions about feminism as of late. At the heart of it ,I believe they’re thinking too hard, trying not to offend, when the reality is, if you believe women should be equal to men — in EVERY respect — you are a feminist. This is neither exclusive of men, nor is it dismissive of them; feminism promotes equality for all. Who, in their right mind, would not agree with that sentiment? As human beings we should promote the best for one another, regardless of how we are physically born, the gender with which we identify, etc. To me it sounds simple, but it unfortunately does not come off as such to many others.
If The Frisky staff came over for dinner, what would you serve us?
Most likely some kind of pasta dish, barring any food allergies or intolerances. Either spaghetti with tomato sauce (my take on Marcella Hazan’s tomato sauce with butter and onion), or bucatini with alfredo sauce (the simplest kind, with just butter, cream, and cheese). That, with an uncluttered salad, some kind of amazing dessert, and tons of wine.
What type of skivvies do you have on right now?
Red, lacy cheekies.
What is your secret talent?
In my former life (i.e. as a kid), I was an excellent classic violinist.
What’s an amazing book or movie that other Frisky readers
If anyone wishes to go into the medical field, reading Samuel Shem’s House of God is an absolute must. Other than that, the A Song of Fire and Ice series by George R. R. Martin. They are completely amazing.
Which celeb would you most want to get in bed with? Which celeb would you most want to marry?
I would most want to get into bed with David Tennant, and marry either him, or Joseph Gordon-Levitt. But I would totally get in bed with JGL, too…
What’s something you hope to see more of on The Frisky?
Honestly, I think you guys are doing a great job. I could get nostalgic and say, “Oh, I wish there were more posts a la Winona, Ami, or Rachel (to name a recent few),” but that is the beauty of The Frisky. It is forever changing, offering us new perspectives and voices to visit every day. With that said, I do love Amelia’s “Funny Girl Sex Guide” … more please! And John DeVore guest posts, if you can coerce him!
