Stephen Colbert Does Rookie Mag’s “Ask A Grown Man”

Okay, I love Stephen Colbert, but I’m not totally down with some of his answers for Rookie Mag’s “Ask A Grown Man” series. While answering a question from a 19-year-old whose father won’t let her sleep at her boyfriend’s house because he’s squicky about sex, Colbert suggests that maybe her dad just knows what’s better for her. (Err, why does this young woman think she needs her dad’s permission to do any of this?) And while answering a question about boys and men making misogynistic jokes, Colbert says “No, I don’t think they know that it’s harmful,” instead suggesting that the jokers just want attention. Some of these answers may be true, but I would have hoped for more empowering responses for Rookie Mag’s teen audience. The “Ask A Grown Man” series can be pretty insightful into how individual men think about certain issues, but this one has parts that come off as kinda man-splain-y. [Rookie Mag]
