“The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby” Looks Like It’ll Tear Our Hearts Out

I’m a sucker for a romantic movie that kicks me in the gut with some painfully realistic message about how fleeting love is. “Blue Valentine”? One of my favorite movies ever, and not just because Ryan Gosling is in it. “Like Crazy”? So. Many. Tears. “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby,” starring Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy, depicts a couple’s relationship through both of their perspectives. It originally premiered at the Toronto Film Festival as two subtitled pieces, “Him” and “Her,” and then was recut so they were combined for the Cannes Film Festival. The latter version will hit theaters September 26 — but the filmmaker is also releasing the earlier version later in the fall. Choose to see whichever version you want, but by the looks of this trailer, you should probably bring tissues no matter what.
