Weekend Shut-In Worksheet: LOL At “22 Jump Street,” Listen To Jack White’s Latest & Try Some Cool Nail Art

Activities are wonderful, but sometimes, it’s fine to want to shut the world out for a couple of days, and make some serious time for you. Don’t be afraid of FOMO, either. There will always be another party, another pub crawl, another picnic. The time you’ll spend indulging in the things you want to do, alone, are well worth it. Here’s a handy list of awesome things to do this weekend!

  • “The Feminist Leader Who Became A Men’s-Rights Activist” (The Atlantic): I’m dying to read this piece because it sounds fascinating. – Jessica
  • Random Family: Love, Drugs, Trouble and Coming Of Age In The Bronx by Adrian Nicole LeBlanc: I’ve heard nothing but good things about this non-fiction book about how the ’80s heroin business impacted one family living in poverty. I just started reading it and so far, the story is absolutely gutting. – Jessica
  • “How Miss Info Became Hip-Hop’s Ultimate Insider” (Buzzfeed): As you probably know, New York’s Hot 97 is what gets me out of bed every morning and I am obsessed with the station’s VH1 show, “This Is Hot 97.” One of the breakout stars of the show is Miss Info, the station’s gossip girl — I can’t wait to read this profile of her. – Amelia

  • Jack White, LazarettoObviously I’m gonna be listening to Jack White’s newest album, Lazaretto, that just came out. – Winona
  • “Behind The New Black” (NPR): I just started watching the first season of “Orange Is The New Black” (I know, I’m really late to the party), so I found this NPR interview about the real Piper’s prison story to be so interesting. If you’re a fan of the show or are considering watching, it’s definitely worth a listen/read. – Katie
  • Death, Sex & Money Podcast: This podcast comes via New York Public Radio, but I didn’t know about it until a friend in California told me about the most recent episode, in which a woman marries the gay father of her child. I’m interested in different family constructs so this episode in particular sounds right up my alley, but other episodes look great as well. I’ll be downloading! – Amelia

  • “We Are The Best” (in theaters): The movie “We Are The Best” looks fantastic. Definitely on my list of must-sees. – Winona
  • “22 Jump Street” (in theaters): I rarely go to the theater to watch movies because the whole experience annoys my ADD, however, an exception will be made for “22 Jump Street,” which looks fucking hiiiiiiilaaaaaaaaarious. I am a big fan of stupid comedies and this seems like a good date movie. Also CHANNNNNING. – Amelia

  • Line Nail Art: I’m going to try to tackle this cool line nail art tutorial this weekend. Pray for my famously unsteady hands. – Winona
  • DIY Sugar Scrub: My skin has been peeling from an awful sunburn I got a couple weeks ago, so I made a DIY sugar scrub to hasten the exfoliation process. Oh my god my skin felt amazing afterwards! Confession: since the only ingredients were coconut oil, sugar, and vanilla, I did take a bite before using it. And it was delicious. – Winona
  • DIY Undies: I go through panties like whoa. It’s really time that I buy fabric and make some of my own– Jessica

  • Sunflower Seed Butter: Have you guys ever made sunflower seed butter? It’s super cheap, super delicious, and couldn’t be easier to make at home (as long as you have a food processor, that is). If you have a sweet tooth, add a swirl of cinnamon and raisins. So delish. – Winona
  • Watermelon Cocktails: I have half a watermelon in my fridge right now, so I just might make some Boozy Watermelon Mint Lemon this weekend. – Jessica
  • Marshmallow Chocolate Chunk Cookies: I’ve had a serious sweet tooth lately, so when I saw this recipe, I knew I had to give it a whirl. I’ll let you know how they turn out! – Katie
  • Portabello Buffalo Burgers: For Father’s Day this Sunday, I’m grilling up a batch of these because YUM. – Katie
