I Die: One Direction Fan Fiction Sold To Major Publisher For 6 Figures

Where is the future of book publishing? In Harry Styles’ knickers, apparently. Anna Todd, 25, a first time writer who’s married and lives in Central Texas, has sold her insanely popular One Direction fan fiction e-book series, After, to Simon & Schuster Gallery Books for a reported six figures. At least she’s an adult, which makes me feel better because the thought of a 13-year-old making more money than me makes me die a little inside. Anyway, After – and its two sequels — has been read over 800 million times (?!?!) according to the website, and tells the story of Tessa Young, “an 18 year old college student with a simple life, excellent grades, and a sweet boyfriend,” who “meets a rude boy named Harry, with too many tattoos and piercings who shatters her plans.” Tessa and Harry — Styles, OBVS — have their own Twitter hashtag couple name — #HESSA — and Todd even sells goddamn jewelry inspired by the books. I’m not hating; I’m in awe. I still have no desire to read One Direction fanfic, but shit, if Anna Todd wrote a book about starting your own fanfic empire, I would read the hell out of that.
