Weekend Shut-In Worksheet: Catch Up On “True Tori,” Listen To Tori Amos & Jewel Your Vans

Activities are wonderful, but sometimes, it’s fine to want to shut the world out for a couple of days, and make some serious time for you. Don’t be afraid of FOMO, either. There will always be another party, another pub crawl, another picnic. The time you’ll spend indulging in the things you want to do, alone, are well worth it. Here’s a handy list of awesome things to do this weekend!

BOOKS/ARTICLES

  • Eleanor And Park by Rainbow Rowell: I just started reading this YA novelbecause I’ve only ever heard glowing things about it. It’s about young love, bullying, outsiders, and domestic violence. I have tissues at the ready. – Jessica
  • Scribd.comThe people at Scribd.com gave me a free trial subscription, so this week I’ve been going ape saving books I want to read later. It’s basically a for-pay library online where you pay a monthly subscription and can read/”check out” as many books as you want. You can read through a Scribd app on your iPhone, iPad, Android or Kindle Fire — or you could read through your desk top. They’ve got some great authors on there, like Lionel Shriver, Ian McEwan and Russell Banks. – Jessica
  • The Patron Saint Of Liars by Ann Patchett: I have had over 20 years to read this book and never picked it up until now. Better late than never: I got sucked into the story immediately and will probably spend most of my weekend with my nose pressed firmly between the pages. – Winona
  • “What So Scary About Smart Girls?” by Nicholas Kristof (NY Times): If you didn’t read Nicholas Kristof’s piece about the power of an educated girl, READ IT NOW. – Winona
  • Shares From Your Aunt (Facebook): This Facebook page is a hilarious (like, choke-on-your-coffee funny) satire of every elderly, racist family member who hates Obamacare and loves factually-challenged Facebook memes. If you’re not following it, you’re missing out. – Winona

MUSIC/PODCASTS

  • Tori Amos, Unrepentant GeraldinesTori Amos’s new album is finally on Spotify! – Jessica
  • Jason Derulo, Talk DirtyIf you need a good soundtrack for getting it on, look no further. I am obsessed with Jason Derulo’s “Talk Dirty” album, and can’t stop listening to two tracks: “Trumpets,” and “Vertigo,” a song in which Jason’s joined by his girlfriend, Jordin Sparks. The entire album is pure babymakin’ music though. – Katie

TV/MOVIES

  • “True Tori” (Lifetime): I feel so grateful to be living in the golden age of television when this show and “Catfish” (below), two amazingly car-wrecky shows, are allowed to flourish and prosper. “True Tori” is Tori Spelling and her stupid loser husband’s latest reality show, specifically about their cheating scandal, and it’s both SO REAL and SO FUCKING FAKE. Like, Tori has not acted this hard since Donna Martin was addicted to pain pills. Also, I cannot believe Dean cheated on Tori while she was at a Christmas event. Doesn’t he know that December 25th is Donna Martin’s birthday?! Can you tell I’m addicted? I’m addicted. – Amelia
  • “Catfish” (MTV): My boyfriends Nev and Adam are back!! The most recent episode of the new season was so bananas, I’ve already watched it twice. (Don’t judge me.) Nev and Adam were forced to confront the fact that, well, their show may be actually creating more catfishing. – Amelia
  • “Return To Zero” (Lifetime): Lifetime has a new movie premiere tonight at 8 p.m. called “Return To Zero,” starring Minnie Driver and Paul Adelstein. A guaranteed tear-jerker, it’s the story of a real couple who loses their baby only weeks before his due date and the grief they have to go through in the wake of his stillborn birth. It’s such a common issue women face, yet we rarely hear about it, so I’ll be watching to see how Lifetime tackles such a taboo topic. – Katie

DIY/EATS/FUN

  • Homemade Bubble Bath: I made this foaming vanilla honey bubble bath the other night and it was life dream status. Smelled amazing and made my skin feel so soft! – Winona
  • Panna Cotta: After tasting buttermilk panna cotta at a fancy restaurant earlier this week, I’m determined to try to make it at home. – Winona
  • DIY Jewelry Plaque: These are badass– Winona
  • Jeweled Vans: As far as I’m concerned, shoes make an outfit. You can be wearing a garbage bag but if your shoes are fierce, you got game. Therefore I think my closet needs a pair of DIY jeweled kicks. – Amelia
  • Squat Challenge: I’m getting my ass in tip-top shape with a squat challenge! I only just started and think my buns might fall off (which means it’s working), but wanted to see if anyone wants to do it with me?! — Katie
