Seems like Lana Del Rey has traded her signature hair-sprayed bouffant for a headful of relaxed beach waves in the video for “West Coast,” the first single off Ultraviolence, her much-anticipated sophomore album.
The primarily black-and-white clip features Lana frolicking on the beach with a couple of gutter punks intercut with footage of the pop singer lounging with a MUCH older man in the back seat of a convertible. Directed by Vincent Haycock (Florence Against The Machine, Calvin Harris), the video then ends with overlapping color video of Lana being burned alive while wearing what looks to be a red Jessica McClintock, scalloped, off-the-shoulder prom dress.
When we took a closer look at the beach scenes, which totally reminded us of Madonna’s “Cherish” but, like, on bath salts, it appears Lana is cavorting with a familiar on-screen flame: Bradley Soileau, who also co-starred in her video for “Born To Die.” Does this mean Del Rey dumped alleged fiancé, British drummer Barrie-James O’Neill, for her face-tattooed skater boi?
[Cue dramatic music.]
In the meantime, watch the clip and stay tuned for more details on Lana’s new album, Ultraviolence, which takes its title from the 1962 dystopian novel, A Clockwork Orange, and, sadly, has yet to be given a release date. Womp womp.
