7 Roles Hollywood Could Cast Lupita Nyong’o In Right Now
Lupita Nyong’o has it all as Hollywood’s “It” girl, but her film resumé is kind of lacking. Besides playing Patsey in “12 Years A Slave” — for which she won the Oscar — the 31-year-old actress only has two other roles to speak of. She was a flight attendant in the Liam Neeson thriller, “Non Stop,” and will voice a wolf mother in the upcoming adaptation of “The Jungle Book.”
So, why can’t Hollywood find that stellar leading role for this year’s Best Supporting Actress Academy Award winner? Is it sexism? Is it racism? Or is it because Hollywood’s run by a bunch of idiots? We’re going with a mix of all three, because we can think of at least seven different plum parts that Hollywood could cast Lupita Nyong’o in right now.
Hollywood could cast Lupita in … “Star Wars: Episode VII.”
Ever since Nyong’o took home the Oscar, critics and fans alike have been clamoring online to see the actress in a galaxy far, far away. J.J. Abrams seemingly took note, because it was confirmed that she had been seen for a role. Most fans’ hopes were dashed when Disney announced the official cast last week, but there’s a persistent rumor that there is still one multi-cultural female role to fill — the role Nyong’o was up for. Is it too much to ask to see her lighting up the screen with a lightsaber?
Hollywood could cast Lupita in … A Queen of Sheba biopic.
What better way to capitalize off of Lupita’s natural regal grace than by casting her as the mythic (and historical) Queen of Sheba. Sure, she’s a sexy footnote in the Bible, but historians believe that the Queen of Sheba was real and was very much a force to be reckoned with. Nyong’o would absolutely shine in a sensuous epic about the ruler. Bonus points if we get someone hot like Jake Gyllenhaal or Oscar Isaac to square off against Nyong’o as the wise, and womanizing, King Solomon.
Hollywood could cast Lupita in … A “Funny Face” Remake.
As staggeringly talented as Lupita Nyong’o is, she’s been getting more attention for her pitch perfect fashion choices. In only a few months, she’s gone from nobody to People‘s Most Beautiful Woman in World. Since Hollywood loves a remake, and fashion loves Lupita, why not remake “Funny Face” with Lupita in Audrey Hepburn’s role? Get Hugh Jackman or Idris Elba in there as Bing Crosby’s cynical photographer, and you’ve got chic Christmas rom com that will sweep up the box office receipts.
Hollywood could cast Lupita in … An Action-Romance With Ryan Gosling.
Come on. If Lupita Nyong’o and Ryan Gosling co-starred in a modern take on Romancing The Stone, you would be first in line. I know I would. (Okay, maybe I just want to see Ryan Gosling in an action romance, but I also want to see Lupita Nyong’o in one!)
Hollywood could cast Lupita in … “MacBeth.”
The luminous Marion Cotillard is playing Lady MacBeth opposite Michael Fassbender in the latest film adaptation of the infamous Scottish play, but why couldn’t that part have gone to Nyong’o? If Cotillard can tackle the Bard with her French accent, there’s no reason why the stage-trained Nyong’o can’t fit right in amongst the Scottish highlands.
Hollywood could cast Lupita in … Anything.
Lupita Nyong’o is a gorgeous, intelligent, charming, fashionable, likable, famous and talented actress. Which means she can do any part you throw at her, and people will enjoy watching it. So why is it so hard for Hollywood to cast her in something big post-Oscars? Because Hollywood is full of dummies who haven’t yet figured out that even though they don’t understand intelligent and talented women, the movie-going audience does.
Hollywood could cast Lupita in … Nothing. Lupita Nyong’o Doesn’t Need Hollywood.
Before she went to the Yale School of Drama, Nyong’o worked in the film industry behind the scenes. She was a PA on “The Constant Gardener” and wrote and directed short films. Which means that Lupita Nyong’o doesn’t need a Hollywood heavyweight to shine his light on her. The woman can write, produce and direct her own projects. Get it, girl.
