One Month Prison Sentence Overturned For Stacey Dean Rambold, Montana Teacher Who Raped 14-Year-Old Student
Montana’s Supreme Court has overturned a one-month prison sentence handed down to Stacey Dean Rambold, a former teacher who raped his 14-year-old student.
Rambold had been sentenced by Judge G. Todd Baugh to 15-years, but served just 31 days in jail this September because Baugh thought the victim “seemed older than her chronological age” and “as much in control of the situation” at the time of the rapes. Riiiiiight: Rambold was 49 years old and an authority figure at the 14-year-old girl’s school when she was assaulted. The victim eventually committed suicide before her case went to trial. The Montana Supreme Court overturned Baugh’s ruling and said a new judge must sentence Rambold. According to the AP, the state prosecutors who appealed the original sentence are fighting for a mandatory minimum of four years. [KRTV; AP]
