Watch This Father Sing “Home” With His Daughter And Fight To Bring His Mother Home

Jorge Narvaez became an online sensation a few years ago when he sang a cover of “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros on YouTube with his daughter Alexa. Now, he’s back in the spotlight with both of his daughters — this time, to spread the word in support of family reunification.

His mother, Esther Alvarado, is being detained in Arizona after being denied re-entry to the U.S. A few days ago, Jorge posted an update on the video’s YouTube page with the sad news that Esther’s asylum case has been denied. Her children, one of whom is still a teenager and another who’s a U.S. Army veteran, are in the States without her. She’s lived in the United States for over 20 years, and according to an attorney Jorge consulted with, there’s reason to believe Esther is being held as an example in retaliation for protests over another woman who was previously detained. Esther’s case will soon be appealed in front of a judge, and Jorge is hoping to draw the attention of as many politicians as possible.

You can sign the petition for Esther here and share it with everyone you know. On his YouTube page, Jorge also includes Esther’s current address if you’d like to contact her at the detention center where she’s being held. [Feministing]
