When it comes to spring nail color, I’m feeling a bit torn between my favorite poppy red and the pretty pastel shades that are big for the season. Unlike Jessica’s creamy coloring, my olive skin tone often clashes with rich pastels. On a routine trip to Sephora — what? — I spotted these Formula X colors and decided to give them a shot.
Application: Sephora Formula X has its own system for nail prep, base coat, and top coat, but I skipped all of that. As I’ve mentioned before, I have noticeable nail ridges and use Essie’s base coat. The glittery, opalescent Sci-Fi color is one of the most opaque glitters I have tried. Unlike a lot of glitter polishes, which can apply unevenly and require many quotes to get just right, two coats of Sci-Fi resulted in 100 percent coverage. I applied Sci-Fi to my ring fingers and paired it with two coats of the cloudy grey Thrilling from the nudes collection.
Overall: Both colors of Formula X nail polish dried beautifully even without a top coat. I find these more neutral pastels a better compliment to my currently pale olive skin tone and can’t wait to see what they look like against my summer tan! Next up, 10 toes in Sci-Fi!
