Texas Father James Cosby Investigated In Murder Of Lesbian Daughter & Her Girlfriend

A week ago today, police in Galveston County, Texas, found the bodies of two young Black lesbians. Crystal Jackson and Britney Cosby, both 24, had both been murdered and police suspected their sexuality may have been a factor in their killings.

Now Britney’s father James Larry Cosby has been arrested in connection with the death of his daughter and her longtime girlfriend. He is being charged with two counts of tampering with evidence in connection to the deaths.

Police say the women were murdered between the night of Thursday, March 6 and the morning of Friday, March 7.  Britney had a broken neck and died from blunt force trauma, while Crystal died from a gunshot to the head.  According to the Huffington Post, both women appear to have been either killed at or taken to/from James Cosby’s home at some point during the night. A blood-stained rug means the bedroom, in particular, is under investigation as a place where the women might have been killed.

The womens’ bodies were discovered by a beer deliveryman next to a dumpster in Port Bolivar, Texas. It is still unclear who may have moved the bodies.  James Cosby has not been accused yet of killing his daughter and her girlfriend, only of tampering with the evidence after their deaths.

As the lesbian blog After Ellen notes, people — including his ex-wife — are coming forward to say that James Cosby did not accept that his daughter Britney was gay. It’s sickening to think that a parent could be so bigoted towards their gay child, let alone kill her. When will the violence and hatred stop? Enough is enough.

Our thoughts are with Crystal Jackson and Britney Cosby’s families.
