Beauty Test Drive: Julep Luxe Care Hand Creme

I hate to break it to Kim and Kanye, but the word “luxury” is thrown around so much these days that it doesn’t mean jack shit. When a beauty product is called “Luxe” or “Luxury,” I don’t even assume that means it’s fancy anymore because you can buy “luxury bath beads” at the Dollar Store.

It’s a treat then to use a not-so-inexpensive hand cream that markets itself as “Luxe” and actually feel like I’m Donatella Versace luxuriating with her freshly moisturized paws while she rolls around on piles of money. That is an exact summation of how I feel after using the Luxe Care Hand Creme from the monthly nail polish club, Julep. I might have had mixed feelings about Julep’s monthly Maven program, but their decadent hand lotion is hands down (pun intended) the best I’ve ever used.

Price: $20 on (only $16 for Julep Maven members)

Formula: Julep’s hand cream has the luxurious consistency — and I’m not exaggerating this at all — of homemade whipped cream. It just feels decadent on your hands. Julep’s fine print is that their hand creme is made with proprietary Power Cell Complex, a combination of fatty acids, lipids and oils which leave your hands softened and nourished. I have the driest skin in the Northern Hemisphere and a quarter-sized dollop of this lotion is truly heavenly — not at all oily or waxy. It is lightly and pleasantly scented, but not overpoweringly so.

Wear Time: The weather is dry out there and I must reapply lotion to my hands every half hour. This hand creme is the only lotion I’ve used (and I’ve tried everything, from department stores brands like Bliss and L’Occitane to drugstore ones like Salma Hayek Nuance and Eucerin) that keeps my hands moisturized for hours and hours and hours. I’m truly impressed.

Overall: If I could bathe in this stuff, I would. I’m already figuring out how I’m going to justify spending $16 on hand creme.
