Passion begets passion. And marrying your bicycle begets an excuse to start an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for your dream honeymoon. As a young adult, Lisa Nelson never rode a bike for more than 5 miles. She took up cycling while working at a non-profit program that “focused on turning delinquent youth on to positive programing … such as biking.” That’s how she met her strong but silent partner of 15 years, Steele Spokes, who she’s getting hitched to on March 2nd in a Luau-themed wedding.
But here’s where your wallet comes in: the happy couple is raising funds for their “extended bicycle odyssey honeymoon,” which will include Lisa getting her PhD in higher education, finishing a book, advancing her Spanish skills, a variety of “collaborative music and art projects,” service projects, testing bike and camping equipment and doing research to implement a “semester on cycle” program for college students. Lisa and Steele have already raised nearly $2,000. Only $4,000 to go if you can find some spare change under your couch cushions. In return for your donation, you will receive “one-of-a-kind perks related to the adventure” based on contribution. If you can cough up $500, you can do the honor of giving Steele away at the wedding. Sounds like a worthy cause to me. Mazel tov, to Lisa and Steele. They seem like a good couple. [Jezebel]
