Surprise! The #1 Word Used To Describe Snapchat By College Students Is "Narcissistic"

A new survey found that only 2 percent of college students sext via Snapchat, shocking middle-class baby boomers who thought they knew everything about “kids these days.” Sumpto, an online marketing company, has found that 37 percent of students use it for “creativity,” whatever that means. Making festive doodles with its Microsoft Paint-esque tool, maybe? Another 27 percent uses it to keep in touch — what a novel concept! The funniest (and most telling?) discovery is that the word college kids use most to describe Snapchat is “narcissistic.” Are they saying that Snapchat is narcissistic in general or they become narcissistic when using it? Let’s assume it’s a little bit of both, since Snapchat is much a bigger enabler for self-obsession than, say, the phone itself. Would you call your best friend to tell her that your barista just created the best foam latte heart you’ve ever seen and it matches your heart-patterned sweater? No friends, you would not. You would Snapchat a picture of it to everyone you know, and yes, that would qualify as using it for “creativity” because a selfie with quality composition is no simple feat. [NYMag.com]
