Shirley Temple Black Dies At 85

  • Shirley Temple Black, the 1930s child star, died on Monday night at age 85. Temple Black acted in 23 films throughout her childhood during the Depression, when she was the most popular actor in America. She sang, danced and inspired the eponymous non-alcoholic soda drink. After retiring from Hollywood at 22, she became active in Republican politics and ran a losing bid for Congress. Later in life, she served as an ambassador to both Ghana and Czechoslovakia.
