Beauty Test Drive: Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Natural Lipstick
I’m not a lipstick person. Not in the slightest. For the most part, avoiding lipstick is due to my enormous fear that it’s going to smear all over my face or my teeth. I’ve seen it happen to too many women and my second-hand embarrassment for them has scared me away from wearing lipstick in my day to day life. I’ll wear it on a rare special occasion, but otherwise my lip product of choice is Eos lip balm.
The thing is, though, I like how lipstick looks on me. Every time I’ve ever gotten my makeup done by a professional, they finish with the lips and I love how it looks. I have small, thin lips and it’s sort of amazing, the optical illusion tricks that can give me a pout that I cannot believe is on my own face. So when a girl friend took me shopping at Make Up For Ever to buy makeup for my wedding, I bought their Rouge Artist Natural lipstick in a sheer natural pink (Iridescent Pink Gold — shown on me after the jump!) that’s perfect for every day wear.
Price/Availability: $20, MakeUpForEver.com and Sephora
Formula/Wear Time: It’s alway so funny to me that lipstick commercials advertise how long their products stay on, as if no one ever wipes their mouths with napkins, drinks from coffee cups, or gives kisses. Make Up Forever Rouge Artist Natural claims eight hours of moisturization, comfort and hydration — that’s not quite true. Usually I have to reapply it after three or four hours of normal coffee-drinking/kissing-my-husband goodbye.
This lipstick does not, however, slip and slide all over your face. It’s creamy and moisturizing, but not so creamy that it doesn’t stay put. It actually feels quite lovely on my lips during the freezing, dry winter cold.
Overall: If you want a basic lipstick to keep in your purse and throw on in place of lip balm, this is a good one — the color, the texture, everything. I would absolutely buy it and wear it again. Although I balk somewhat at the price (Eos lip balms are way cheaper), it seems worth it for a product that I love.
