Weekend Shut-In Worksheet: Pre-Order Sara Barron’s The Harm In Asking, Listen To Birdy & Scarf Down Sweet Potato Nachos

Activities are wonderful, but sometimes, it’s fine to want to shut the world out for a couple of days, and make some serious time for you. Don’t be afraid of FOMO, either. There will always be another party, another pub crawl, another picnic. The time you’ll spend indulging in the things you want to do, alone, are well worth it. Here’s a handy list of awesome things to do this weekend!

  • As you might have noticed, the only non-yoga related things I do on the weekend are watch documentaries on Netflix and read books. My documentaries for this weekend will be: “Somm” and “Cutie and the Boxer.” – Ami
  • I just watched “The Lifeguard” starring Kristen Bell and Mamie Gummer on Netflix Instant. Kristen’s character is a reporter in New York City who is reeling from a bad love affair and feeling disillusioned by her job, so she moves back home with her parents in rural Connecticut. She gets a job as a lifeguard at the local pool and spends a lot of time envying all the teenagers on the cusp of beginning their lives. It was written and directed by a woman and definitely passes the Bechdel test (two or more female characters who walk to each other about something other than men.) – Jess
  • Uh, who else is going to be watching the latest “Bachelor” wedding go down on Sunday? Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici are somehow still together and actually tying the knot LIVE on ABC tomorrow. I’m going to watch mainly because I’m sort of hoping one of them changes their mind at the last minute and we get to see someone get jilted on live TV. (I swear, I’m usually a good person.) – Amelia

  • And my reading material will be an advanced copy of The Harm In Asking, my friend and comedic soul mate Sara Barron’s new book. Full disclosure: I’m 17 pages in and I was laughing so hard I was crying on the subway this morning. More please. – Ami
  • I very much want to read Newsweek’s article “Sex And The Single Tween” and then think about Mike Huckabee reading it as well and his head exploding. – Jess
  • I loved Jesmyn Ward’s beautiful novel Salvage The Bones, so I cannot wait to start reading her memoir, Men We Reaped this weekend. (I found it in the SPINmedia freebie pile this morning! Score!) – Jess

  • Ami is coming to Nashville next week (!!!!) so obviously I’m going to take her to my favorite weekly barn concert. Robert Kelly is playing this week and his album, We Are Poetry, is so beautiful. – Winona
  • I just rediscovered British singer/songwriter Birdy the other day and have been really digging listening to her self-titled debut album of cover songs. I especially love her rendition of Phoenix’s “1901.” – Amelia

  • My husband and I are throwing an Australia Day party this weekend. He’s making his famous “goon punch” again. It got our guests pretty wasted at our wedding. Here’s a similar recipe from a Australian Yahoo thread. Happy Australia Day! Yay koalas! – Jess
  • These sweet potato nachos LOOK like they might be as tasty as regular nachos, but obviously this matter will require more research to draw a conclusive result. – Winona
  • I make hummus every weekend (cuz I’m wild and crazy like that), but this weekend I think I’m gonna veer from my classic hummus recipe and try this spicy Moroccan carrot hummus– Winona
