Patti LaBelle Would Like You To Know That Today’s Pop Stars Are “Little Heifers”

Patti LaBelle, whom most of us would consider to fit squarely into the “history-making power divas” category, isn’t too fond of the d-word anymore. According to LaBelle:

“That word is used so loosely that I don’t even consider myself a diva. I always considered myself a woman who sings her heart out and who gives 120 percent. ‘Diva’ is a word that I wouldn’t wanna call myself because it’s so loosely used. It’s not cute anymore.”

She has a point. Once, “diva” was reserved for those in the upper echelon of hard-working beauty and talent, and today, it’s more like a catch-all for hot messes. That awkward part is that she insists the new negativity behind the word has cropped up “because all these little heifers who can’t sing are called divas!” She is so right that plenty of today’s pop stars have subpar talent, and maybe don’t even deserve fame, but calling them heifers seems a little excessive. Of all the insults in the world, she chose that one? Isn’t that kind of Regina George behavior? No matter how fierce a belter you are, think before putting down other ladies, Patti [PrideSource via Huffington Post]
