Despite the remaining members of Fleetwood Mac courting her to get back on the snow goose, since leaving the band in the ’90s, “songbird” Christine McVie has repeatedly refused, insisting that she “go her own way.”
In a 2012 Rolling Stone interview, Stevie Nicks squelched any reunion “rumors” with her prediction that Christine McVie returning to Fleetwood Mac was about as likely as “an asteroid hitting the earth:”
“She is done. You know when you look in somebody’s face and you can just tell? She doesn’t want to do it anymore. She doesn’t want to fly. She doesn’t want to come back to America. When she left, she left. She sold her house, her piano, her car. She went to England and she has never been back since 1998, so it’s not really feasible, as much as we would all like to think that she’ll just change her mind one day. I don’t think it’ll happen. We love her, so we had to let her go.”
Just last year, after playing a gig with her old bandmates, McVie was singing a different tune.”If they were to ask me I would probably be very delighted . . . but it hasn’t happened so we’ll have to wait and see,” when she told The Guardian.
The, during a recent gig, Mick Fleetwood surprised fans with an announcement. “This is the worst kept secret there is, but Christine McVie will be rejoining Fleetwood Mac,” he confessed.
This is excellent, exciting, amazing news, but now I’m worrying that an asteroid is about to hit the earth. [Rolling Stone]
