Six people have been charged in the alleged dual gang rape of a 21-year-old woman in India earlier this week. In all, 10 people were arrested in connection with the attack, which occurred on Christmas Eve.
As the BBC describes it, the story is quite crazy: while her friends went inside a house, the woman was first abducted by three men and raped by one of them. She was reunited with her friends, but then abducted again by another group of unrelated men, taken to another location, and sexually assaulted six times. Police said the two groups of men appear to be unrelated. It’s unclear why she was targeted twice in the same night.
In addition to the alleged perpetrators, three of the woman’s friends were arrested for not properly reporting the attack, according to Hong Kong’s Standard.
The victim is currently hospitalized in stable condition.
Her ordeal calls to mind several high profile gang rapes in India this year — particularly Jyoti Singh Pandey, a 23-year-old who was raped so brutally that she later died from her injuries. Four men involved in her gang rape were sentenced to death in September.
