It’s Time To Cry: Boston Marathon Victim Engaged To Nurse
On April 15 of last year, two bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Three people were killed and almost 300 were injured. One of those injured was James Costello of Malden, Massachusetts, who was photographed with serious burns and his clothes torn following the blast. Three of Costello’s friends lost their legs and others suffered burns and shrapnel injuries.
Costello spent several weeks at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he underwent surgeries to get pig skin grafts on most of his right arm and right leg. He was then transferred to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, where one of his nurses was a woman named Krista D’Agostino.
Now, these two are engaged.
As he told WCVB news, James wasn’t happy about being transferred to a rehab facility because it meant he would be away from his injured friends. But it turns out that he and a nurse at his new rehab, Krista, had some mutual friends.
“After sharing a handful of conversations I realized not only how beautiful she was but also what a kind heart she had,” James wrote on Facebook. “I somehow convinced her to attend a benefit with me, which turned into a few dates, which turned into a few inseparable months.”
James proposed this month in Lyon, France while on a cruise in Europe. The “Heroes Cruise” is an all-expenses paid, 11-day trip by Deluxe World Travel for 114 victims and first responders.
“I’m happy to announce that we will spend the rest of our lives together,” James wrote. “I now realized why I was involved in the tragedy. It was to meet my best friend, and the love of my life.”
What a heartwarming story. Congratulations to the happy couple!
