Yogis, rejoice! O’Hare International Airport in Chicago now has a yoga room! The room is open from 6 am – 10 pm, and according to aviation commissioner Rosemarie Andolino, it serves as an “oasis for passengers.” O’Hare is one of the nation’s busiest airports, so an oasis is exactly what its visitors probably need! Chicago’s other major airport, Midway, is also set to open a yoga room in the near future as well.
The room is 15 ft by 16 ft and has bamboo wood flooring, and a wall of floor-to-ceiling mirrors. It also offers exercise mats and lovely natural light. It includes a video monitor for playing yoga techniques or nature images, as well as “soothing sounds” via an audio player. Other airports with yoga rooms include San Francisco International Airport, Burlington International Airport and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Dallas also has a “Live-Well” walking path, which sounds nice, whatever it is! Many other airports have meditation rooms for quiet reflection. Here’s hoping this trend picks up speed all over the country. Airports are one of the most stressful places in the world, so the more calming spaces they offer, the better the travel experience becomes for all of us!
