Vanessa Carlton Confesses On Facebook She Miscarried An Ectopic Pregnancy
Vanessa Carlton recently confessed via a Facebook Note to her fans that she recently had a miscarriage.
Explaining why she is rescheduling several upcoming tour dates, Carlton revealed she had an ectopic/fallopian pregnancy — meaning her embryo settled in one of her fallopian tubes instead of the uterus.
Two weeks ago, Vanessa’s management wrote on her Facebook page that they had to reschedule several shows due to a “medical emergency” and then last week she posted about going to the ER. Now, Vanessa has chosen to open up and share what it was: a dangerous ectopic pregnancy. Here’s what she wrote on Facebook:
I announced that I was pregnant during the first week of tour. The day after our NYC show on Oct 15th, I was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy, or in my case it was a fallopian pregnancy (the embryo settled in my tube, which is the width of a straw.) This is not considered a viable pregnancy because the fetus cannot develop and it is a high risk situation for the mother because of the potential for tubal rupture and internal bleeding.
We caught it relatively early so I was given a shot of Methotrexate, a mild chemotherapy instead of having surgery. This would hopefully shrink the pregnancy and save my tube. … This past Monday, Oct 28th, 11 days after the chemo shot and despite our best efforts, my tube started to rupture and I was experiencing internal bleeding. … My doctor performed a successful surgery and removed my entire right fallopian tube.
How terribly sad! Poor girl. She said she is currently on the mend from the emergency, but needs to rest. Thus, she had to cancel the first four dates in her tour in Vancouver, Seattle, Portland and Bellingham.
On a lighter note, Vanessa joked “this is the second time I ended up in the ER without underwear.” Good for her that she can have a sense of humor during this difficult time.
