I haven’t thought about Michelle Pfeiffer in a while, but regardless, she is the last person I would expect to admit she was once a member of a cult. Pfeiffer told the UK’s Telegraph newspaper that back when she was just starting out in Hollywood, she “got involved” with a couple who fancied themselves “personal trainers.” They put their “clients,” including Michelle, on strict diets they called “vegetarianism,” but ultimately believed that people in their “highest state” were breatharians. Breatharians believe they can survive on sunlight alone. I’m guessing they’re a hangry crowd though.
All this not eating cost Michelle a pretty penny too. “They were very controlling,” she told the Telegraph. “I wasn’t living with them but I was there a lot and they were always telling me I needed to come more. I had to pay for all the time I was there, so it was financially very draining.” Sounds like the cult leaders were using the restrictive eating to weaken their members and emotionally manipulate them out of money. Michelle realized that there was something rotten in Denmark when she met her first husband, who was studying for a part in a movie about the cult the Moonies.
“We were talking with an ex-Moonie and he was describing the psychological manipulation and I just clicked,” Pfeiffer explained. Really? It wasn’t when you were paying someone to tell you all you need is sunshine to survive? Ugh, worst cult ever. If I was going to join a cult, there would have to be sandwiches involved, for real.
