After live tweeting through last night’s season premiere of “Nashville,” and then discussing the episode this morning around the water cooler (okay, not really … we were just at our desks), it dawned on me: every character who appeared to be doing a good deed was really doing something that would ultimately benefit them. Or, at least, that’s what we were led to believe.
Characters who were introduced to us in season one as selfish individuals were later humanized, slowly redeeming themselves through various acts of kindness and humility. But looking back, it’s hard to tell which of those acts were genuine. In last night’s premiere, several characters’ “selfless” acts seemed to be peppered with their own, personal intentions in mind.
Whether or not you saw the show, it’s safe to say we all know some egocentric people — they’re not willing to do something kind unless they get something out of it. But the question is, can those selfish people ever change and do selfless things?
Vote in our poll below and then from 4-4:30 pm ET, @TheFrisky will be discussing the question and poll results on Twitter. Be sure to join in on the convo and use the hashtag #ThisOrThat. See you then!
