George Zimmerman has been taken into custody after his estranged wife Shellie called the police to report that he was threatening her and her father with a gun. No charges have been brought against him yet, and police are reportedly still “trying to determine what exactly happened.”
The Monday afternoon incident follows the news that Zimmerman’s wife Shellie filed for divorce last week, citing “irreconcilable differences.” In a statement read by her lawyers, “after much soul searching and recent disappointments, Shellie feels compelled to officially end her six year marriage to George Michael Zimmerman.” Last week, Shellie appeared on “Good Morning America,” where she admitted that George had been “verbally abusive” to her and that George was selfish.
“I stood by my husband through everything,” she said. “And I feel like he left me with a bunch of pieces of broken glass, that I’m supposed to now assemble and make a life.”
Since being acquitted of the murder of Trayvon Martin in July, Zimmerman has been pulled over twice for speeding violations. “In my opinion, he feels more invincible,” Shellie told “GMA” of the incidents. “I just think he’s making some reckless decisions.”
Update: Zimmerman’s wife Shelli has decided not to press charges and Zimmerman is free to go.
