“Bisexual? Me? I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure I’m not … I don’t want to be one of those people that complains about the rumors. I never like it when a celebrity goes on Twitter and says, ‘This isn’t true!’ It is what it is; I tend not to do that.”
– One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles was asked point-blank by GQ to address his rumored relationship with British DJ Nick Grimshaw, and while Styles denied that specific rumor (“We’re just friends”), his reaction to the question of his sexuality was a little more ambiguous.
My little brother, who is around Styles’ age, reacts very similarly to people asking if he’s gay. “I don’t know,” he says. “Maybe. Who cares?” Whenever he says stuff like that it warms my heart, because it’s SUCH a different attitude than people had when I was 19, when being accused of being gay or even bisexual was still regarded a serious insult that needed to be cleared up as quickly and aggressively as possible.
I’m not saying Styles deserves an award for saying he’s “pretty sure” he’s not bisexual, but I think it’s really cool that he’s able to leave the door open a bit, and acknowledge that there might not be a concrete answer to that question. [Us Weekly]
