internet troll apologizes to mary beard for twitter sex harassment
  • An internet troll apologized for calling Professor Mary Beard, a classicist at Cambridge University in the UK, a “filthy old slut” and other nasty comments — but only after a threat arose to tattletale to his mother. Olivier Rawlings, a 20-year-old college student, used his own Twitter account for the online harassment; the abuse was seen by someone who threatened to tell his mom exactly what her precious son was saying to women online. A random Twitter user replied to Beard, “Mary, if you would like to send a copy of @Rawlings153′s tweet to his mother, Joanne, I’d be happy to give you the postal address.”  That quickly got Rawlings to apologize! Of course, now there’s an article in the Telegraph about the boy’s misogynist trolling behavior, so Mama Joanne is probably going to see it anyway. [Telegraph UK]
