The Stupid, It Burns: Racists Upset That Marc Anthony Sang “God Bless America” At All-Star Game
Today in “Oh my god, please stop, you’re embarrassing yourself” news: racists are apparently upset that Marc Anthony was asked to sing “God Bless America” at this week’s MLB All-Star Game because, they claim, he’s not even American. While Anthony sang the patriotic tune on Tuesday, racists with Twitter accounts went off, referring to the singer as “unAmerican” and “a Mexican,” along with various racial slurs.
Putting aside the fact that it is ridiculous to say that someone who isn’t American shouldn’t be singing “God Bless America,” allow me to be one of many to remind these dipshits that Anthony is not “Mexican,” he’s Puerto Rican, and, NEWSFLASH, Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States. And also? Anthony is of Puerto Rican descent, but he was born and raised in the United States. He is as American as they come. Anthony addressed this stupid “controversy” on “Live! with Kelly and Michael” this week, saying, “To set the record straight, I was born and raised in New York, you can’t get more New York than me.” [Huffington Post]
