Andrew WK Is Drumming For 24 Hours Straight, Because He Is Awesome

Julie Gerstein / June 20, 2013

A couple of months ago, I saw Andrew WK present his favorite movie, “Eraserhead,” at the IFC Center. Afterwards, a fan asks him why he’d chosen “Eraserhead” and he basically said, “because my people”–aka management––told me to. He talked a lot about how he was just a puppet for his management, which sounded so depressing and pathetic. Maybe it was an Andrew WK lark? Who knows? But I can tell you that his current 24-hour drumming marathon goes a long way in redeeming him. To commemorate this year’s O Music Awards (whatever they are, we don’t care), WK’s dedicated himself to drumming for 24 hours straight. He’s had some help: Marky Ramone, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, Zac Hanson (!) and Nick Jonas (double !), among others, are all stopping by to help out. But mostly it’s just WK, in a NYC police department baseball cap, some dirty white jeans and his drums. As of this writing, he’d been at it for more than 15 hours. I’ve been listening for the past 45 minutes, and it’s actually quite meditative. Will he make it to the end? Click and find out. [Mashable]
