One of the more enjoyable and interesting memoirs I’ve read in recent years is Piper Kerman’s Orange is the New Black, which is about the 15 months the author spent in prison after she was convicted of money laundering and drug trafficking. Kerman committed the crime in her early-20s, but wasn’t arrested, convicted and sent to prison until many years later, after she had cleaned up her life and had a professional career. (Check out an interview The Frisky did with her here!) The book was a fascinating look inside what it takes to get by as a woman in prison and is filled with an incredible cast of characters, which is why I’m seriously psyched that Netflix has turned the book into their third original series (after “House of Cards” and the return of “Arrested Development”), with Piper being played by doppelganger actress Taylor Schilling. Check out the trailer for the show above! Looks so good!
