Texas Man Acquitted Of Murdering An Escort Who Refused Sex

Jessica Wakeman / June 6, 2013

On Christmas Eve 2009, an escort named Lenora Ivie Frago refused to have sex with a client who hired her via Craigslist, so he pulled out a gun and shot her. Ezekiel Gilbert of Texas injured Frago in the neck, paralyzing her for seven months until she died.

Yesterday, a jury acquitted Gilbert of murder, because he said he was only trying to get back the $150 he had paid her. He didn’t intend to kill the 23-year-old escort when he shot her in the neck, you see. He was just trying to reclaim his stolen property!

Mind you, an escort is technically hired for their time; escorting is legal precisely because the escort is choosing whether or not to have sex with the person who paid for their time. Yet the jury agreed that the money that Ezekiel Gilbert paid for her time was stolen property, despite the fact she spent 20 minutes in his apartment with him. At first, I thought Ezekiel Gilbert had spent the last four years of his life in a mental hospital. But no! He actually said he has been living in a “mental prison” in which watching guns on TV makes him very upset.

Sounds terrrrrible. Almost as terrible as Lenora Frago’s family knowing the man who killed her has literally gotten away with murder.
