Compassionate Fashion: Mata Traders

So far, our Compassionate Fashion feature has spotlighted a company that still makes most of its clothes in the U.S. and a big brand that has found an ethical approach to overseas factory production. This week we want to shine a light on a fair trade company, Mata Traders. Everything Mata sells is handmade by women in India who are treated with respect and compensated fairly for their work. Mata strives to empower the women they work with in every way they can: “Whether a beginner sewer or the marketing director, all the women that make our clothing and accessories have a voice.” Pretty rad, right? They stock an awesome selection of handmade clothing and jewelry in an array of eye-catching prints — and pretty much everything is less than $100. Click on the gallery to check out 10 of our favorite items in their current collection!
