Fun fact: As feminine as our Jessica typically dresses, she also enjoys a bit of a more masculine edge. Jess loves nautical style, specifically with a Jean Seberg kind of Fraaaanch twist and is looking to add some pieces to her wardrobe that will reflect that. But here’s the kicker: She doesn’t want to spend more than $300 for everything –– total. So I went to scouring high and low for awesome, seaworthy items that won’t make her look like a salty sea captain or a sea wench (not that there’s anything wrong with that).
After hours sweating it out on e-commerce sites, I found a selection of tops, bottoms, shoes and accessories that I think she’ll love. Clockwise from top left:
Gap Boyfriend Shorts, $33.96
Flynn Skye for Free People Nautical Stripe Maxi, $99.95
J. Crew Factory Stripe Boatneck Tee, $23.50
Levi’s Color Midrise Skinny Ankle Jeans, $54
Aerosoles Water Plush Wedge Sandal, $39.95
Navy Sailor’s Knot Bracelet, $12.99
Yellow Canvas Belt, $11.99
Sea Through Top, $37.99
See (heh) how to wear it all after the jump!
Summer Casual: Boyfriend-style shorts are slouchy and comfortable and hit at the nice midpoint of your thigh. I paired them with a flowy, semi-sheer navy blouse with a tiny(!) anchor pattern on it. Wear the belt and tuck the blouse into your shorts, if you like, or go untucked and skip the belt.
Summer Office: Jessica really wanted a classic, French-y nautical striped boatneck tee, and I think this one from J. Crew Factory perfectly fits the bill. I paired it with a pair of summery ankle-length jeans, that give off that Bridget Bardot-in-”Contempt” vibe. Paired with a wedge, it’ll give the effect of making your legs seem longer. And oh yeah, who doesn’t love a nautical knot rope bracelet, really?
Date Night: I know Jessica loves her some maxi-dresses and this one has a simple nautical stripe motif, but doesn’t look too costume-y or anything. It’s not like it’s got big anchor epaulets on it. (You should really only wear those if you’re in a touring company of South Pacific or a member of a Village People cover band.) Paired with a bright red wedge and a pop of color around the waist (Or not! Up to you!), this is a perfect summer date outfit with a guy who hopefully (maybe) might take you on his yacht. I mean, dream big.
The sum total for all eight pieces? $314.33. So I went a tad bit over her limit … but chances are Jessica has a brightly colored belt in her closet already.
