Reese Witherspoon was arrested for disorderly conduct for arguing with a police officer on Friday in Atlanta, Georgia, during her husband’s arrest for driving under the influence, according to Variety.
Yes, seriously, Reese Witherspoon got arrested for disorderly conduct.
Jim Toth, Witherspoon’s husband and baby daddy, was pulled over after midnight on Friday morning while “weaving” into the wrong lane. The police report, as reported by Huffington Post, is absolutely golden:
“Mrs. Witherspoon began to hang out the window and say that she did not believe I was a real police officer. I told Mrs. Witherspoon to sit on her butt and be quiet. … “Mrs. Witherspoon asked, ‘Do you know my name?’ I answered, ‘No, I don’t need to know your name.’ I then added, ‘Right now.’ Mrs. Witherspoon stated, ‘You’re about to find out who I am.’… Mrs. Witherspoon also stated, ‘You’re going to be on national news.’ I advised Mrs. Witherspoon that was fine.”
It would seem the Oscar winner actually pulled a “Do you know who I am?” She also reportedly “stated that she was a ‘US citizen’ and that she was allowed to ‘stand on American ground.” According to Variety, “She was handcuffed after disobeying repeated instruction from the arresting officer, with whom she verbally sparred, to stay inside the vehicle.”
Her huband, a CAA agent, was charged with driving while intoxicated; Witherspoon was charged with disorderly conduct. Both were released at 3:30a.m. on Friday morning. Both were in Georgia for the filming of an indie drama, “The Good Lie.”
Well, well, well. I know there was some explanation for why “America’s Sweetheart” and Chelsea Handler are best pals.
