Earth Month Beauty: 5 Natural Face Cleansers For Every Skin Type

As you may or may not already know (you probably do), April is Earth Month, which means it’s prime time to educate yourself about all things good and green. Switching to natural beauty products, particularly skincare (I’m not about to part with my heavy-duty, chemical-laden concealer), can be crazy beneficial to all skin types — sulfates in facial cleansers are drying, irritating, and can potentially cause cancer. Cool! Unfortunately, products with better ingredients often translate to more expensive products, and there are so many on the market now that it can be difficult to choose the right one for you. These 5 natural, sulfate-free facial cleansers, which range from $11 to $46, are all tested and true, and there’s bound to be one that suits your skin type and routine…

Orico London Streetwise Gentle Antioxidant Face Wash: Dull skin gets a boost from this gentle foaming wash, packed full of anti-inflammatory antioxidants like camomile & linden and natural anti-bacterial ginkgo biloba for a clean, clear complexion that’s both decongested and soothed. Plus, the light fragrance of tangerine and orange essential oils is sure to get you going in the morning, without being too overpowering for nighttime use. [$21, Orico London]

Elemental Herbology Cool & Clear Facial Cleanser: The price is nothing to shrug at for sure, but the container is large enough and the amount necessary for use is so small that it’s almost justified. (Almost.) Irritable, congestion-prone skin is cleansed and purified with essential active ingredients like green tea, aloe vera, lavender, and tea tree. For those who find their skin eternally unbalanced, this top-of-the-line cleanser might just do the trick for getting things (read: oil productions and pores) under control once and for all. I’m a convert. [$46, Elemental Herbology]

Jurlique Rose Moisture Plus With Antioxidant Complex Moisturising Cleanser: Combination skin prone to both dryness and impurities can benefit from this rose-centric whipped cleanser. Its primary ingredient (and scent!), rose hip oil, restores skin and hydrates without over-moisturizing, and willow bark extract enhances cell turnover while dissolving dirt and impurities for clean, conditioned skin free of breakouts. [$22, Jurlique]

John Masters Organics Linden Blossom Face Creme Cleanser: If your skin is so sensitive that just the sight of foam triggers a reaction, this incredibly gentle creme cleanser is the perfect means to nourish skin without heavy oils or buildup. Rose flower oil and linden blossom treat and soothe dryness and sensitivity, and antiseptic yang yang and ginseng tone and revitalize. [$22, John Masters Organics]

Pacifica Sea Foam Complete Face Wash: Don’t tell Pacifica, but this cleanser should be twice as costly for what it’s worth. A light, coconut-scented lather produces enough bubbles to cleanse the skin thoroughly and remove daily toxins and makeup, but it’s gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin. Papaya extract exfoliates without the use of bits and pieces, and sea algae extract promotes natural brightness without abrasive chemicals. [$11, Pacifica]
