How the best laid plans do folly: A Florida sheriff’s office accidentally distributed a phone sex line number to victims of sexual assault. I’ll repeat that. A Florida sheriff’s office accidentally distributed a phone sex line number to victims of sexual assault. The number was printed on a flyer created by the Lake County, Florida, Sheriff’s office as a means of offering sexual violence victims support via telephone. But when they called it? Yup, phone sex from “America’s hottest talk line” where callers are instructed “To talk to interesting and exciting guys free, press 1 now. Guys, hot ladies are waiting to talk to you.”I mean? Come on guys. Is it too much to ask that you’d call the number to check just once? Even worse, the same flyer included an incorrect address for a women’s shelter. The address printed hasn’t been in use for almost 20 years.

“We’re giving out wrong information and I sure don’t want my victims calling a sex line,” said Kelly Smallridge, the Executive Director for the Haven, a local domestic violence shelter. Since the error was discovered, the sheriff’s office has stopped distributing the flyer. The kicker? The number has apparently been on the flyer “for years.”

Now, says Smallridge, the Haven will have the difficult task of following up with past cases to make sure that victims got the services they needed. [Click Orlando]
