A high school science teacher in Idaho is being investigated for using the word “vagina” while teaching a biology lesson about the about the female orgasm.
“I teach straight out of the textbook, I don’t include anything that the textbook doesn’t mention … But I give every student the option not attend this class when I teach on the reproductive system if they don’t feel comfortable with the material,” said Tim McDaniel, the 10th grade science teacher at Deitrich School who dropped the V-Bomb.
Some parents in the community, of which more than 60 percent of families are members of the Mormon Church, complained to the school board about McDaniel’s lesson, requesting that they fire him. His students don’t feel the same way and have rallied in support of him, creating a Facebook page that reveals the real agenda behind behind the complaints:
“[T]here are a couple people in the community that are trying to get Mr. McDaniel fired for teaching the reproductive system, climate change, and several other science subjects … All these subjects were taught from the book and in good taste. He cares for each of his students and goes the extra mile to help them all. Now is the time for us to help by supporting him!”
“It is highly unlikely it would end with his dismissal … Maybe a letter of reprimand from the school board,” said Dietrich Superintendent Neil Hollingshead of the incident.
To that McDaniel replied, “I’ve done nothing wrong, I told them I won’t sign [a letter of reprimand].”
Damn right he didn’t! I’m fist pumping here from my desk. Go Tim McDaniel and your students! When, as a society, will we stop thinking of vaginas as taboo or offensive? Learning about our anatomies should not be optional education, either. Sex-ed should be required. This insanity must stop.[Raw Story]
