Style 911: Help Me Find A Petite Dress For An Afternoon Wedding!
I am attending a wedding at the end of the month in D.C. I am having a lot of trouble finding a reasonably priced petite dress to wear. This time of the year a lot of dress have stripes, polka dots, flowers, or are neon. The wedding ceremony starts at 3pm, so I need something that will transition from day to night. I am open to color suggestions. I only ask that they not be black or white. Budget-wise I’d like to keep it $100 and below. Please help! –Christa
When I initially went searching for a dress for you, I bookmarked a bunch of dresses that are striped, brightly colored, or floral print, because apparently I have a really bad short term memory and they were all really cute. Then I went back and looked at your email, and I realized this is indeed a tough season to be looking for a simpler style of dress.
But this fashion mission isn’t impossible, and I did find a few options that I think would work really well for this wedding (and other events throughout the year!). Read on for all the details about these four lovely frocks…
1. Cecilia Shift Dress, $100: J.Crew has a wonderful collection of occasion dresses, but unfortunately most of their prices have skyrocketed into the not-exactly-affordable category. This dress is on sale for 100 bucks, and is available in pink, mint, and emerald green. The sash will accentuate your curves, and the style is versatile enough that I’m sure you’ll end up reaching for it again and again.
2. Sheath Dress, $77: Cobalt blue looks amazing on everyone. Dress up this sheath with a pretty up-do and metallic pumps for the wedding, and dress it down with a cardigan and flats to wear to work.
3. Ruched Waist Dress, $98: Close to the top of your budget, but again, very flattering and super versatile.
4. Draped Tulip Dress, $25: I love all the little details of this dress, and you can’t beat that price! (Also available in light pink.)
Hope that helps, Christa! Frisky readers–if you have any favorite petite brands/stores to suggest, please feel free to share other ideas in the comments. And if you have a Style 911 question of your own, email Julie at [email protected] or Winona (that’s me!) at [email protected]
