Frisky Reader Revealed: DelightfulIsle Makes Us Smile

Hands down, the best thing about working at The Frisky is our amazing readers. We so heart all of your witty, thoughtful, and informative comments — heck, we even appreciate the mean ones. Sometimes, we can’t help but wonder about the faces behind the avatars. So we decided to bring back our regular column where we learn all about a Frisky reader. After the jump, meet DelightfulIsle!

(And if you’re interested in being featured as a Reader Revealed, email me with “Reader Revealed” in the subject line.)

Please state your name or avatar, age, and  location for The Friskyverse.

I’m Alexandra Gioulakis, AKA, delightfulisle, I’m 28 and live in Los Angeles. I’m also online at [Jessica’s Note: And on IMDB!]

How did you find the site?

I found The Frisky from a link on Google News. I also introduced my mom to the site, and we’ve been enjoying for about a year.

What do you do all day, other than follow The Frisky, which is totally condoned?

I write screenplays and run a production company, Short Wing Productions, with my good friend and business partner, Genie Willett. We produce short comedy videos and are starting to get into industrials, corporate videos, and commercials. I’m also currently working on a pilot with my writing partner, Christopher Ray.

What is your fave post in recent Frisky history?

The Hitched essay “Braggy Ring Photos Are Braggy.” When I read this post, my jaw dropped. I’ve been working on a comedy music video about this exact same thing! Our composer, Nick Rivera, is currently working on the music and we are set to shoot in early April. There’s nothing I hate more than a ring shot.

What are your pop culture guilty pleasures?

My husband and I just finished watching the first season of “House of Cards” on Netflix (we devoured it in about two days). The new platforms of TV distribution are amazing; I think it’s definitely what our generation wants. Maybe it’s just because of the world I live in, but it seems no one has time to watch network TV at a specified time every week. Netflix, HuluPlus, and YouTube are the solution. Other pop culture guilty pleasures include any video by Jon LaJoie, Kelly Oxford’s Twitter feed, and the site (though I wish he posted more often).

Team Ryan Gosling or Team Channing? (Yes, you have to pick only one. Don’t be greedy.)

Ehh, neither? Can I be Team Bradley Cooper? Though I often see Gosling at a few of the vegan restaurants in L.A. [WHUT? — Amelia] Seriously, best celeb sighting place is always at vegan restaurants.

Can you share your most embarrassing dating story? We always share ours. It’s only fair.

Since my mom reads this, I’ll keep it PG. Freshman year in high school I had a boyfriend who was taking me to homecoming. He picked me up that night, and came inside to meet my parents for the first time. He was so nervous; he accidentally fell into my mom and knocked her over while trying to shake her hand. My dad still jokes about this one.

Do you consider yourself a feminist? Why or why not?

Yes, I do. And I have to thank The Frisky for really opening my eyes up to what a feminist is. Growing up, the word feminist had a slightly bad connotation associated with it. I think a lot of women who don’t consider themselves feminists don’t yet know what it means. It’s all about equality for women, and equality is always a good thing!

If The Frisky staff came over for dinner, what would you serve us?

A brown rice bowl with steamed kale, wakame, avocado, maple tempeh, raw sauerkraut, sesame seeds and a miso, ginger, lemon, tahini dressing. Served with a fresh juice of cucumber, celery, carrots, ginger, lemon, daikon, and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Then after all that healthiness, we’d go have some drinks at a local bar.

What is your secret talent?

I can move my ears!

What’s an amazing book or movie that other Frisky readers absolutely must get their hands on right now?

So many good choices! I love reading and collecting old books. I just finished Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami and it was amazing! My all time faves are Cat’s Cradle and Galapagos by Kurt Vonnegut, Skeletons on the Zahara by Dean King, Everything is Illuminated by Jonathon Safran Foer, and Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. I also love anything by Chelsea Handler. I just got Patton Oswalt’s Zombie Spaceship Wasteland and am excited to start it.

Which celeb would you most want to get in bed with? Which celeb would you most want to marry?

My husband. He’s not a celeb, but he does work in the film industry so I totally think it’s fair to pick him.  :)

What’s something you hope to see more of on The Frisky?

I love the Hitched articles and anything about the Wedding Industrial Complex Andrea writes about. I find wedding culture equally fascinating and revolting. My husband and I eloped in Vegas, and I love reading about other people’s untraditional weddings! I would also love to see more travel guides or first person travel adventures.
