Karl Lagerfeld Taps Tilda Swinton To Front His Latest Chanel Couture Campaign

By: Rachel Krause / February 28, 2013

Karl Lagerfeld is one kooky old bigot (whom I happen to find quite endearing, though others may not agree and despite the fact that I am most definitely too fat for his tastes anyway), but he is now responsible for one of the best moves ever made in the history of celebrities-as-fashion faces. It involves Chanel. Also, Tilda Swinton. Tilda Swinton! That’s right: Karl has tapped Tilda to front the ad campaign for his most recent couture collection. The collection was shown in an old castle in Scotland, Tilda is Scottish; it all makes perfect Chanel sense! This is the first time representing a major luxury brand for Tilda, which, how is that even possible given that she is tall, pale, willowy, crazy-cheekboned, ridiculously elegant Bowie-alike perfection? A mystery. Not that I’m complaining, because Tilda plus Chanel equals unnggghghghgjdghdf. It’s going to be so good. That’s the first image from the campaign, above. Very Narnia indeed. [The Cut]
