“I just got these shoes on super sale from a local boutique here in Philly! I can’t wait to wear them this summer … how do you recommend I style them?” –Jackie
First off, nice score on these Swedish Hasbeens! These are awesome. Did you know that Swedish Hasbeens are actually derived from a bunch of Swedish clog deadstock someone found in a warehouse? Or as the Swedish Hasbeens site explains, “Her name was Anita and she was the hottest mum in all of southern Sweden in the 1970s. While smoking Camel she screamed at her kids until her curlers fell out and just looked fabulous in her white high-heeled clogs. ”
The more you know!
I understand not wanting to wait til summer to wear these, though they’ll obviously go great with any bright sundresses you’ve got. So in order to ameliorate the current weather situation, I’m going to suggest that you Wear An Outfit That Is Puzzling To Men — that is, the old shorts and tights combo. Though Rachel and I vehemently disagree on the merits of wearing open-toed shoes with tights, I think it’s tres adorable, and since I’m answering this Style 911, what I say goes. After the jump, I give you two options on how to do this.
Because the bright yellow color of the sandals is really standout, it’s going to be the element that, as The Dude might say, “really ties the look together.” So keep most things mellow, and try to connect one other element you’re wearing to the shoes. In this case, I’ve pared a fairly neutral tight and short combo with a really wackadoo bright shirt, that gives the outfit some cohesion.
If you’re not into garish yellow prints, that’s cool. Another way to create a cohesive look is to keep all of your key elements neutral and add a couple of pieces of bright statement jewelry that match the tone of the shoes.
Which look would go for?
