Manti Te’o’s Catfisher, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, Comes Out To Dr. Phil …Kind Of

Ami Angelowicz / January 30, 2013

This Thursday and Friday, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, the man who confessed to “catfishing” Manti Te’o, will appear on “Dr. Phil” to talk about the hoax. Dr. Phil appeared on”The Today Show” this morning to discuss the interview and said that when he asked Tuiasosopo why he posed as Lennay Kekua, he attributed it to romantic feelings for Te’o:

“Here we have a young man that fell deeply, romantically in love … I ask him straight up … was this a romantic relationship with you? And he says, ‘Yes.’ … I said, are you then, therefore, gay?  And he says, ‘Well, when you put it that way, yes … I am confused.”

During the interview, Dr. Phil says Tuiasosopo confirms that Manti Te’o had nothing to do with hoax and explains why he put an end to it:

“I wanted to end it because after everything I had gone through, I finally realized that I just had to move on with my life … I had to start just living and let this go.”

I’m sure Dr. Phil will get way, way deeper into Tuiasosopo’s psychology, but at this point, he does say that Tuiasosopo had “a number of life experiences that damaged [this young man] in some very serious ways.” This interview should be very interesting. More interesting than Dr. Phil’s interview with Dina Lohan? I’m not sure. We’ll have to see. [Gawker]
