Beauty Test Drive: Jane Iredale PurePressed Mineral Powder

The story of how I came to own Jane Iredale mineral powder foundation goes something like this: I met my friend Aileen for dinner and as soon as I saw her flawless skin I shrieked, “Oh my god what makeup are you wearing please teach me to make my face look like your face!”

“It’s Jane Iredale powder foundation,” she replied. “It’s the best.”

So a few days later we went to a local beauty shop and I accidentally spent my life savings on Jane Iredale products. The purple eyeshadow I picked up  was a bit of a disappointment, but this mineral foundation? That’s a whole different story…

Price/Availability: $52 (I know, you guys, I know), Jane Iredale

Packaging: A pretty (and refillable!) gold compact.

Formula: This powder foundation does the work of 3 or 4 different products, which is honestly the only way I can justify the price. It provides the coverage of a foundation with the gorgeous matte finish of a powder, which means no shine. It minimizes pores and fine lines. It has SPF 20. It’s made with natural mineral ingredients that are actually good for your skin. In the photo above, I’m wearing a bit of under-eye concealer and a layer of this powder applied with a makeup sponge, and that’s all. As you can see, the coverage is sheer enough that you can still see a few freckles around my nose, but all redness and blemishes have been totally covered up (you’ll just have to take my word for it that they were there, because I don’t really want to post a picture of them).

Wear Time: Amazing. Sometimes I’ll dab on a little more around my hairline before going out in the evening, but otherwise it lasts all day.

Overall: I’m so glad I took the leap and bought this stuff. Not only does it provide great, even coverage, the condition of my skin has improved since I started using it. If you’re willing to shell out for higher quality makeup, I would definitely recommend giving Jane Iredale Mineral Powder a try.

Rating: 5/5. Obsessed.
