Beauty Cues: Rose Byrne’s Simple Shaded Eyes

I’m pretty sure Rose Byrne could make clown makeup look ultra-glam, but that doesn’t mean that this simple contoured eye look is any less impressive. In a season filled with beauty influences on either side of the spectrum, from burgundy-lipped goth to luminous “is she even wearing makeup?” faces, this one lands safely in between. It might have something to do with the fact that Rose is in Australia right now, and I’m pretty sure it’s summer there. Still, this is a completely versatile, classic look that can be toned down for work or glammed up for play, whatever the season. Here’s how…

  • MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Shadow in 4E: This long-lasting, waterproof pencil is an easy way to make quick work of eyeshadow looks, and the dark taupe-grey shade lends darkness and definition without the harsh, unforgiving effect of pure black. Use it at an angle to line the upper lashline and crease (this is the most important part!), blending slightly outward to extend the eye. The pencil’s tip is a bit chunky, but you can still use it to carefully line the lower lashline before cleaning up the area with a cotton bud dipped in makeup remover.
  • Dior Rouge Dior Nude Lip Blush in Grege: The ultimate “your lips but better” look may just be hidden inside this single lipstick bullet. The sheer, balmy formula makes it comfortable and easy to wear, and the pigments enhance and flatter lips rather than simply covering them. It’s translucent (and easily corrected) enough to wear straight out of the tube, but use a lip brush for best results.
  • Stila Eye Shadow in Cloud: This soft, shimmery, lavender-leaning grey shade is universally flattering, but it looks especially ethereal on olive complexions. Use it (before the liner pencil) with a small, fluffy shadow brush, sweeping the color over the lid from inner to outer corners. To make this look more party-ready, layer the shadow on for super-shimmer.
