One Pair Of Jeans, Three Ways
Jeans are the keystone around which the rest of my wardrobe revolves. Sure, they’re not exactly trendy or adventurous, but they are definitely cool, comfortable, and the easiest thing to throw on in any given morning. The perfect pair can make you look like a supercharged version of yourself — taller, thinner, more stylish, even smarter! We may have left our printed jeans back in summer storage, but that doesn’t mean we’ve resigned ourselves to the faded old stalwarts: coated, or waxed, denim not only provides a sleek substitute to the black and blue variety, but the thicker, more substantial fabric makes it perfect for the cooler seasons upon us. We took the guesswork out of what to wear with your new favorite pair of jeans by putting together three different looks, after the jump …
If you believe that style and comfort should never be mutually exclusive (and don’t we all?), this casual layered look is the best of both worlds. Sport a chambray shirt beneath a slouchy crewneck sweater for an edgy play on traditional prep — a silver collar necklace tucked under the shirt’s collar is an easy way to add a level of interest to an otherwise classic outfit. Wear jeans cuffed or tucked into a pair of low-heeled buckled booties.
We’re in love with loose-fitting boy shirts of any incarnation, but this rose-print silk version has us particularly smitten. Tuck it properly into the waistband for the office; come five o’clock, tuck in just the front and let the rest billow out for a breezy, nonchalant vibe. A pair of pinkish nude suede pumps echo the colors in the shirt without competing for attention; likewise, a wide gold cuff makes a statement without the busyness of a more ornate piece.
This look is perfect for those who love a luxe, pulled-together effect without a ton of time and effort — it’s simple and easily elevated by accessories to go from cozy casual to party or date-ready. A chunky boatneck sweater with side slits is warm and super-flattering, and a crystal statement necklace in pale blue adds a romantic touch that isn’t too sweet. And the clincher: snakeskin dove grey pumps with a sliver of metallic silver would be totally sexy if they weren’t so damn cool.
